How long does it take to build a Website? - That depends on the size of the website and its functionality. A small five page site will take less than a week if the communication and exchanging of files, images etc between us are frequent. A larger website will take longer as we mainly specialise in small/medium size websites.
What is a Domain Name? - This is the name given to a Website, such as: www.shoesforyou.com. Your Domain Name has to be registered annually, which costs between £3 - £10.00 depending on the end tag (.com or .co.uk etc) and the company it is registered with. For the first year, this is included in the price of your Website and is taken care of by us. For a small charge, we can continue to register your Domain Name and cover the costs involved in Hosting your Website. If you do not register your Domain Name, then your Website will not work when people enter your web address into their browser. Clicking on Favs will not help them either.
What is Web Hosting? - There are Internet Companies that have hundreds of specially designed computers that are called Servers, and these Companies are called Hosts. When your Website is complete, all of its pages are sent to one of these Companies to put onto their Servers (called Uploading). Don't worry, they are quite secure, and are protected by special software that prevents any hackers destroying your Website. You usually pay between £5 - £8.00 a month depending on which Company you choose. Without them, the Internet would not function like it does today. The cost of the first year is included in your price.
Do you offer discounts? - If you purchase both a Banner and Navigation bar you receive a 15% discount.

Will my Website appear on Google? - We will optimise your Website so that keywords relating to your business will help it get a good ranking with the most common Search Engines like Google. You need to bear in mind however, that it takes time for Websites to climb the pages of Google. Unless you want to pay for Adwords, which is how Google makes most of its money, it can take quite a few months for it to appear on page one or two of a Google search.
Do not be tempted by Companies promising to get you to the top instantly. Unless you are willing to pay, it simply will not happen. To prove the point, do a few Google searches for different Keywords, and see how many on page one at Google are Companies that have been around for a few years. So it will be with you. Good SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) is the answer, and to this we offer.

What are Keywords? - Keywords are what all of us enter into the search box at Google, Yahoo etc, when we want to find a product or service that we need. They are vital to your online success. You need to think carefully about what words best describe your business, and then use them throughout the text on each of your webpages. We will advise you on this matter when building your website.
Do I need to pay a deposit? - It is industry standard to charge a deposit, with many Web Designers charging half the total price. Once the contract is agreed, we charge a flat rate of 20% for any type of website that we do for you. Two additional payments of 40% will then be due upon completion. The first, just before your Website goes live, the second, 30 days after that. There is an additional 5% discount for early payment.

How much does a Website cost? - Prices range from £145.00 for a no frills single page, up to £495.00 for nine pages. Anything larger or more complex, please contact us to discuss your requirements and to set a price.
How much does a Flash Banner and Navigation bar cost? They are not as expensive as one may think. Banners can start as low as £35.00 for a simple design, and more complex ones range between £60 - £80.00. But they will be unique to you and therefore enhance your Website. Navigation bars range from £25 - £75.00.
What is Flash? - Flash is a great piece of creative Software that is owned by Abode. Used to create an almost unlimited amount of games and online features, most childrens online games are either developed using Flash or at least designed to run using a Flash Player.
Flash Banners and Navigation bars do look great, but will they really make a difference? - If the right balance is found between design and content, then the answer is a resounding Yes! Judge for yourselves. Do you go on some websites and think 'I like that!'? Then again, sometimes it is possible to go over the top, to the point of frustrating clients. Too much spin and dazzle can have an adverse effect, resulting in them going elsewhere.
What if I want to change the button name on my Navigation bar? - Let us know and we will send you an updated version. We are looking to create future Navigation bars with an xml file added. This means that you will have the option of opening up the xml file using Notepad or a similar text program, and adjust the names yourself. You will also be able to adjust colours and spacing between buttons.
Can I have more than one Flash Banner? - Yes, although we do advise to limit the number for reasons stated above. If you have too much going on, it can be distracting to customers. Some people find busy websites annoying.
What if someone cannot view Flash on their computer? - There are few computers today that do not have Flash installed, the latest figures released suggest 95% in total do. There is so much content on the Internet now, to not have it will quite often leave the user somewhat lacking when visiting many sites. If someone does happen to click onto your site, some coding is written inside each Banner and Navigation bar that will offer to take them to Abode where they can download the latest Player. Alternatively, we recommend adding links at the bottom of your page just like we have here at SCMWebdesign. This not only permits additional navigation options, but also helps Search Engines like Google continue to rank your Website highly.
